Madeline is home!

We were able to bring Miss Madie home on Sunday. It was sooner than we expected so I gave the doctor a bit of a deer in the headlights look when he told us but we couldn't have been more excited. James was so excited to meet his little sister. She came home with a photo bed for her jaundice so we still didn't get to hold her but were glad to have her home. James was super excited to meet his little sister and loves her sooo much already. He had to bring her all of his stuffed animals when she showed up and is always putting toys in her bassinet. We have to keep a pretty close eye on him because you never know what he is going to try and share with her but we know it is out of love for her. We decided that with all the baby stuff we needed more storage. James had a great time helping mom and grandma building the shelves. Madie's first bath at home. I love her crazy hair.

We had her post hospital check up today. She is back up to her birth weight already. Also we got to take her off the photo bed which is great. Her Jaundice is down already and is looking so much better. Her oxygen levels were awesome and everything else is on track. We still have a lot of appointments ahead but she is doing great and we love having her home!
As for the medical updates Madeline has been diagnosed with a heart condition called Complete Atrioventricular Canal defect. It means that there are holes in the heart between the ventricular walls. Instead of the oxygen rich blood and the oxygen poor blood being separated the blood can flow freely. It is a very common heart problem with Downs babies. We will be seeing a Cardiologist from Primaries on Thursday to see where she is at. She will need heart surgery sometime between now and 6 months old. They want to do it closer to the 6 months because she would be bigger and stronger and therefore recover faster. Here is a link about her heart condition that our nurse gave us that is very helpful.

I have a couple of past DS clients from California that I keep up with on their parent's blog. I know they won't mind me passing on their blog info, but one mom especially posts helpful info about IEP's and such, and her son had heart surgery. Anyway, I know both moms would be more than willing to answer any questions you have. I'll post their blog addresses:
