Binky Suggestions

Does anyone have any suggestions for weaning a kid off the binky? We are wanting to get James off of it because at this point we use it more for us, well me, than because he actually needs it. From what I have read most people try weaning them slowly however, James does not do well with that. If you start to even hint that you are going to not let him have something he just gets worse. Meaning going cold turkey right? The other suggestion I heard today was to cut the nipple off the end so technically they can have the binky all they want but it isn't useful. I'm not sure that James will like either one and I am sure it will be miserable for a few days/nights. Does anyone have any suggestions at all? I just want him off of it before he gets even more attached to it and it gets harder.

I heard that it works to slowly trim off the end, a little bit each day. After a few days they don't want it anymore. not sure though, good luck!!

I've heard not necessarily the cutting off the nub but cutting a slit down the middle of it as if you were going to make it into two binkies.

Slowly is usually the best, but he suspects something, do it cold turkey. If what you did to wean him worked (if you have) do it that way. Chels cuts her tops off, but the doc told her to for her boy grinds his teeth way bad at night, and thats a cheaper alternative to a mouth gaurd, with the same results.

Cold turkey worked for us... it was a few days of sadness. But after that it was great! Took 'em all and chucked them right in the trash! For James whatever you do the sooner the better like you said. Otherwise it just gets worse! Good luck!
