Halloween!

Tis that time of year again. The time of year for pumpkins, spooky movies, lots and lots of candy, and some kind of attempt at creative costumes.

1st- Pumpkins!

Pumpkin carving is a must in this family and this year it was pretty fun. James was a little nervous at first because I guess he found the inside of the pumpkin "too scary" but once we started cutting the pumpkin into a face and he saw me do one he was ready to dig into Madies' literally and get the pumpkin carving a going.

James 'drawing' out his pumpkin face like Dad

Madeline did have much too do with the carving but she did enjoy playing around with her pumpkin after.

James also really like Madie's pumpkin

Aaron entered his in a contest for a Diesel site he follows. They were challenged to carve one of the sponsor's logos. I think he did an awesome job, now just to see if he wins.

It was quite the year for figuring out costumes. To put it simply I made Jame's a dinosaur cape only to have it completely rejected. He refused to have anything to do with it. I did manage to convince him to wear it just long enough to snap these pictures since I wanted to show off how cute it turned out. I had to tell him it was a super man cape.

Since I didn't want to spend all of Halloween bribing/threatening James to keep his costume on I decided to go route 2 and figure out something he would wear. He already owned an aviator jacket that he wore all the time so I figured if I made hat to match it would be perfect. Warm, comfy, and argument free.

I love how his hat turned out!

Since I can still choose what my kids are wearing, I wanted Madie to relate to James. She was going to be Pebbles but with the failure of costume 1 and since I hadn't made it yet, she is now a 1920's flapper.

Overall I loved how everything turned out. I had the perfect dress to match the kids hanging in my closet from a high school project I did and well Aaron has nothing to do with us, he just really wanted to be a zombie.

Our friends the Hart's. Iron Man, Black Widow, and another Zombie

We had dinner with our friends the Harts and then went trick or treating with some friend's from our ward. They have a trailer that they put some hay bales on and drive around the neighborhood. Since it is a ton of cul-du-sacs they just let the kids get all the houses on the street and then drive to the next one. It worked out great. James had a blast walking around with Aaron while I hung out on the trailer since Madie decided to take a nap.
James hanging out on the trailer. He loved trick or treating and kept saying, 'more doors, more candy!'
By the time we got home James was pretty tuckered out. He was leaning on the couch just to look at his candy. I think he only ate 2 pieces and then was ready for bed. He was very good at making sure everybody got a pile of candy to themselves. It was so much fun to see his excitement tonight.

I love the costumes! They look great. I will be so sad when my kids can no longer be convinced into "themes". Kennedy is already boycotting us!
