Hearing Aides for Madie

Today Madie got her first set of hearing aides. After months and months and months of running back and forth between the Audiologist and ENT trying to get tubes figured out, behavioral hearing tests done, failed tests due to her ears needing cleaned, back to the ENT, and back to the Audiologist we finally got her ears clear, tubes in, and enough 1/2 hour sessions to get a full comprehension of her hearing. She has mild to moderate conductive hearing loss. This could be permanent or improve as she gets older since they feel like a big part is that her ear canals are soo small (newborn size) that as they get bigger it may help improve some of her hearing.

I am just glad that we have something figured out and we get to move on. I have had a lot of mixed feelings about the hearing aides. Excited to see how it helps her language development and terrified at trying to keep them in, not lose them, keep her happy etc.

Well today as always Madie took another change in stride. I went into the appointment ready to deal with an uncooperative little girl. But after getting the in Madie did nothing but grin like crazy and just continue on being her happy self. She never tried to take them out, didn't bother them, wore them the rest of the day until bedtime with no concern at all. I love that girl! I'm not sure how it is affecting her hearing yet since we started them at a pretty low level since they don't want to overwhelm and scare her and we will turn them up a little more next week but for now she is happy to wear her stylish new apparel.

We went with a very stylish purple as Aaron said, "If she has to have hearing aides may as well make a statement."
She has been one very happy and amazingly cooperative girl today. Now to see what the next chapter is.
