Madie finally got her tonsils and adnoids out! It was quite the go around getting there. We were scheduled for surgery 3 times, had to change ENT's , have a sleep study done and after 4 months of planning everything finally worked out.
After coming home she did okay eating and drinking Tuesday night (when we got home), not so great on Wednesday, and come Thursday morning was refusing anything at all. It took two of us to get her to take her pain meds and fortunately for us, my mom drove out first thing Thursday morning hoping a new person would help Madie be more willing to take fluid or in case we ended back in the hospital again. We ended back in the ER again this time we decided to go to the Riverton Hospital since they are a Primaries outpatient facility. By Thursday evening she had refused all fluids and food all day with only 8 or so ounces of fluid the day before. We decided to take her in before she started hitting the extreme dehydration issues.
After a blood test and nurses failing to get convince her to take any fluids (she threw a 20 minute tantrum just when they brought a slurpie into her room). They determined she was dehydrated enough that they needed to keep her overnight and not just giver her an iv and then send her home. We finally got transferred up to a room around midnight and after having all the Dr./nurses check ins didn't get to sleep until 1. Some how Madie managed to stay awake this entire time and as long as there were no slurpies in the room was super cheerful and full of high-fives for everyone.
Friday we were told that if she ate and drank they would send us home and if not we would stay another night. I was ready to settle in for the long haul after Madies attitude earlier that week. She refused everything at breakfast and was pretty lethargic all morning until I got her up and took her to take a bath. That seemed to wake her up enough and I guess get her appetite going because when we got back she started nibbling on the lunch they had brought. As long as she could sit in the bed with the food tray in front of her and I sat on the other side of the room and didn't try to feed her anything she would keep nibbling away. After an hour or so she had eaten most of the food on her tray. When the doctor came by at 4 for round she had eaten enough that we got to go home. I was a little nervous if she would keep eating once we got home or not but I was glad not to sleep another night in the hospital.
Her scabs finally fell off the following Thursday and after that she started actually sitting down at meals with us and asking for food. We were glad to have her getting back to normal. She is still pretty pail in my opinion and is certainly a little leaner from her 2 weeks diet but she is back to eating normally and to her spunky self again.
